Queers And Their Clothes
A collaboration between illustrator and watercolor painter Anne-lise Emig and myself. This series asked LGBTQIA2+ people to submit an article of clothing and describe why or how it plays an important role to their identity or story and to showcase a diversity of queer expressionism.
All illustrations were scanned and carefully handled to preserve the look and feel of watercolor illustration. In order to retain this look and feel, we went with a 50-page, 6x6 in. pocket-sized book that allowed readers to view an illustration on one side and read about that article of clothing on the other. This differed on social media where some illustrations were shared with the text directly alongside the article of clothing. It was also important that it feel like a real book with a spine. I worked with an online printer and chose a 110lb. soft touch lamination cover with the rest of the book to be finished on satin 100lb paper. This gave us enough space for a thin spine design. All copies of the book are sold out.
